Sunday Drive

Mikey and I took Tucy on a drive yesterday. It was rainy and yucky, but we still wanted to get out of the house. So we drove down to Payson and then took the loop around the backside of Utah Lake home (which is Hwy 68 for any that are wondering).

Anyway, we are driving along this road and we encounter some standing water. It looks about 3 or 4 inches deep. That was kinda fun... Then we encounter more and more and even more standing water on this road. I gets to the point when there is so much water that we are driving through that we have to slow down to like 5 or 10 miles an hour because its so deep. We get through all the standing water and start ascending a bit to higher ground, thinking that we are all done going through these flood areas.

Then we reach the newly developed area behind the lake. Brand new homes that start at roughly $250k to build, right. We approach a sign that says "flood area", but there is no water... thats funny. We drive a little father and pass yet another sign that says "flood area" and then approach what I can only describe as a miniature lake in the middle of the road. There was probably 2 1/2 to 3 feet of water that we had to drive through. There were cars just parked on either side of this "body of water", because the water was so high that some of them couldn't even get through.

I guess that is the price you pay to build a house with a lake side view. Anyway, our Sunday drive turned out to be a bit of an adventure... one that neither of us anticipated. And, Tucy slept through just about all of it... too bad.

Oh my heck! They were just saying, on 570 AM, that there are a whole bunch of houses next to Utah Lake that are completely flooded. I always wonder about water-side and mountain-side homes. Sure it's pretty but what in the trash is going to happen if there is an earth quake or a heavy snow season (as we are in at the moment obviously)? I am an optimist in most cases, but not when it comes to natural disasters. I'd rather have a sturdy home on sturdy flat ground. I just would...
